236 "NO TIMES" PUT TO REST AT DISTANCE DOGFIGHT IN FULLERTON

Brian Brown

The FAST Distance Dogfight meet last weekend kicked off the LCM season in style with 160+ swimmers able to compete in many events for the first time.  The competition featured all the freestyle events (except the 50) and allowed swimmers to challenge themselves with multiple races back-to-back.

FAST swimmers achieved 58 new personal best times and recorded 37 new USAS NAG Times (2 "AAA", 8 "AA", 3 "A", 17 "BB" and 7 "B").

More importantly, the meet served swimmers in two crucial ways:

  1. It provided an opportunity for athletes to establish times in new events. 236 NTs were erased from the books!  Now swimmers will be able to enter future events because they have established official times.
  2. Swimmers in the National group were able to get race times in the 1500-800-400-200-100. These will be added up to establish a 3,000 time and alculate an average threshold training pace. This information is used in Coach Jon Urbanchek's famous "colors" training system which he used for 30+ years to build champions.

Look for more unique and purposeful meet formats from FAST to keep the sport interesting for everyone!
