





NATIONAL -- ELITE HIGH-PERFORMANCE PROGRAM
LEAD COACH -- BRIAN BROWN
The FAST National program is comprised of an elite roster limited to 20 swimmers. These highly self-motivated swimmers prioritize swimming over other non-academic activities.
Group members are college-bound student-athletes focused on achieving excellence while achieving school goals and pool goals. Towards this end they and their families also display a willingness to travel in the pursuit of excellence and growth experiences. Through this process group members ultimately expand their athletic potential.
Expectations
- Attendance x Effort = Success (aka "Work Works")
- "A" Standard of Attendance
- Minimum expectation determined by age in order to facilitate progress as the athlete ages
- 1/2 of swimmer's age = Number of practices expected (up to 10)
- Attendance evaluated every 10 weeks
- Ex. 14 year-old agrees to attend 7 practices per week; 10-week total is 70 (90% participation is 63 practices)
- "A" Standard of Effort
- Display daily enthusiasm and respect towards oneself, teammates, coaches and the training process associated with the sport
- Seasonal goal times determined by incremental improvement
- Minimal 2% improvement targets (reset as goals are achieved)
- Training determined by test sets multiple times per year; results implemented weekly
- Timed 3,000 or 30-minute swims to determine aerobic threshold pace (a measure of current physical conditioning)
- Urbanchek Colors Charts to improve paces
- % Race Time Charts to objectively evaluate effort
Requirements
- "All-In" Level of Participation
- Be on time; bring all equipment every day
- Attend travel meets as scheduled
- Participate in training trips as arranged
- Attend additional practices as scheduled
- CA/NV Sectional Time Standards (1 year exemption available at coach's discretion)
- Wear FAST team cap at practices and wear team apparel at meets
- Use ARENA products
