Last Friday, Simon Lamar from FAST competed in the USA Swimming Open Water Nationals in Sarasota, FL.
Simon, who had previously competed in Budapest, Hungary at the World Championships in the 25-kilometer race, spent most of the 10-kilometer race in Florida between 12th and 15th place.
With a surge on the final lap, he moved up to 9th place. As three foreign athletes finished ahead of him, Simon's strong finish enabled him to become the 6th American in the field, thus securing the final spot on the USA Swimming National Team for the second year in a row.
Next month he will be traveling to a World Cup competition in Sardinia, Italy.
Congratulations!
