FAST Shines at 2024 Western Zone Open Water Champs
Lauren Morford
Last Saturday 18 FAST swimmers raced in the 2024 Western Zone Open Water Championships in Coronado, CA. They did an outstanding job facing currents, wind, and waves. This is a tough group!
It was the first Open Water Zones for most of the group: Elizabeth Barnhart, Kevin Ho, Autumn Johnston, Gregory Kim, Stephanie Kim, Yejun Lee, Yves Pan, Rhett Parker, Rohan Parker, and Toby Swanson. Abby Guevara, Tyler Huey, Ratana Miller, and James Sy had raced before, but stepped up to challenge themselves in their first 5K.
Luke Leon Guerrero & Kevin Yum earned entry into the 2025 Open Water Junior Nationals with Top 10 finishes in the men's 5K. Kevin placed 5th and Luke placed 8th. They swam a tough race in a tight pack to earn those finishes.
Elizabeth Barnhart, Rhett Parker, and Rohan Parker also earned Top 10 finishes. Elizabeth took 7th in the women's 1.25K, Rhett took 8th in the men's 1.25K, and Rohan took 4th in the men's 2.5K!
