"THE ONLY WAY TO SWIM FAST IS TO SWIM FAST" -- JON URBANCHEK

Fullerton, CA -- FAST hosted its third annual Jon Urbanchek Invitational meet last weekend to great success. For this year's edition of the meet grew by more than 100 swimmers and drew 31 teams from 7 LSCs. 
 
The event also attracted seven current and former Olympians -- Santo Condorelli  (competit or), Janet Evans (volunteer), Gary Hall Jr (coach), Breeja Larson (coach), Jason Lezak (spectator), John Mykkanen (coach), and Kristine Quance-Julian (coach). The vibe on deck was awesome. 
 
Event winners garnered $75 (1st Place), $50 (2nd Place) or $25 (3rd Place) for their podium performances. Seven new meet records were set, each being awarded $50.
  • Allison Mann (SCAL-CA) -- W100 Butterfly, 1:01.94
  • Arthur Balva (UN-NJ) -- M200 Butterfly, 2:00.31
  • Santo Condorelli (FAST-CA) -- M50 Freestyle, 22.13
  • Eveline Grannis (FAST-CA) -- W1500 Freestyle, 17:43.96
  • Sammy Cummins (NOVA-CA) -- W200 Butterfly, 2:18.48
  • Bianca Nwaizu (NOVA-CA) -- W100 Breaststroke, 1:11.55
  • Isabella Schneider (TROJ-CA) -- W200 Individual Medley, 2:19.79
Additionally, $200 was given to the Best Performance (Male and Female) as determined by the World Aquatics. The WA points system evaluates the quality of swims in relation to the the world record (1,000 points). This was used to determine the winners.
  • Alyssa Ton (NOVA) -- W200 Freestyle, 2:04.53 -- 746 points
  • Santo Condorelli (FAST) -- M50 Freestyle, 22.13 -- 843 points
FAST had 24 swimmers in the meet and achieved 36% best times (42% for women and 34% for men). The meet as a whole had 21% best times (19% for women and 22% for men). 16 FAST swimmers achieved lifetime best times: AJ Ceja, Eveline Grannis, Abby Guevara, Kenneth Ho, Tyler Huey, Shae Kennedy, Dylan Khajavi, Yejun Lee, Luke Leon Guerrero, Ratana Miller, Yves Pan, Rohan Parker, Toby Swanson, Ayanna Thompson, Caleb Yoo, and Kevin Yum 
 
The FAST squad turned in 59 lifetime best times, including 23 new National Age Group Motivational Times!
  • New AAAA times -- 3
  • New AAA times -- 10
  • New AA times -- 9
  • New A times -- 1

FAST Top-3 podium fnishers were:

  • Eveline Grannis -- W800 Freestyle, 2nd Place
  • Luke Leon Guerrero -- M1500 Freestyle, 2nd Place
  • Lincoln Hall -- M200 Breaststroke, 2nd Place
  • Santo Condorelli -- M50 Freestyle, 1st Place
  • Eveline Grannis -- W1500 Freestyle, 1st Place
New Sectional qualifiers from FAST were:
  • Abby Guevara -- W50 Freestyle, :28.79
  • Yejun Lee -- M200 Backstroke, 2:16.95
  • Toby Swanson -- M800 Freestyle, 8:58.99 / M1500 Freestyle, 17:04.53 
The summer season is progressing nicely, but it will be ending soon, so excellent attendance is highly encouraged. Don't wait to be great!
