FAST Alumni Simon Lamar finished 7th in the USAS 10K Open Water Championships in Fort Myers Beach, FL over the weekend. Weather conditions made the race especially challenging. The competition featured international swimmers from France, The Netherlands and The Czech Republic in addition to top American qualfiers. The FAST Distance Dogfight meet last weekend kicked off the LCM season in style with 160+ swimmers able to compete in many events for the first time. The competition featured all the freestyle events (except the 50) and allowed swimmers to challenge themselves with multiple races back-to-back. FAST swimmers achieved 58 new personal best times and recorded 37 new USAS NAG Times (2 "AAA", 8 "AA", 3 "A", 17 "BB" and 7 "B"). At the SCS SCY 14U Junior Olympics this past weekend, Jason Lee, Luke Leon Guerrero, Ratana Miller and Kevin Yum combined for 78% personal best times. Two new USAS NAG Times were also achieved (1 x "AAA", 1 x "AA"). With multiple finals swims, each athlete also scored points for FAST. This culminates our short course season and we are already looking forward to the Summer Long Course JO's. Congratulations!
The Sectional Championships this past weekend was led by FAST seniors, all of whom scored points in the tough regional competition which drew more than 1,000 swimmers from across California and Nevada. Matthew Chai set the tone for FAST by winning the 500, 1000 and 1650-yard Freestyle events and scoring in the 200 as well, totaling 118 points. FAST athletes raced to great results in Irvine this past weekend, recording 51% best times and 26 new NAG times (5 "AAA", 8 "AA", 8 "A" and 5 "BB"). At the International Swimming Coaches Association Elite Showcase meet this past weekend FAST swimmers raced to 65% personal best times and 21 new USAS National Age Group times (6 "AA", 5 "A", 9 "BB" and 1 "B"). They also brought home lots of hardware as a result of all their hard work! Congratulations to all!
Last Saturday FAST athletes showed their meddle by achieving 152 personal best times and 47 new USAS NAG Times. With the excellent combined efforts of 91 swimmers, FAST moved into a second place finish at the Sprint Cup Invitational Meet two weekends ago. The event featured lots of prelims and finals opportunities for our athletes, which is a great learning environment because everyone knows "Champions swim faster at night!" Senior Kailee Chow continued her assault on the 17-18/Open 200 Yard Butterfly team record which she set in mid-November. Last weekend FAST concluded the fall season by competing in the 2021 CA/NV Speedo Sectional Championships at Golden West College in Huntington, Beach. Thirteen swimmers combined efforts to win 3rd Place in the Small Teams Division. The meet featured 700 swimmers from Northern and Southern Califonia as well as Nevada. FAST achieved 31% personal best times and one new NAG Time Standard (AAAA). Congratulations! FAST athletes are already back in the pool preparing for 2022 -- "Don't wait to be great!". Happy Holidays!
