At our mid-season tune-up, the June Age Group Championships two weekends ago, FAST athletes recorded 36 personal best times. Our 20 swimmers in the meet also achieved 20 new USAS National Age Group Times (8 "AAA", 9 "AA", 1 "A", 2 "BB) in the midst of heavy training. Congratulations to all our JAG participants!

At the meet last Saturday FAST swimmers got the opportunity to race some new faces from San Diego and Clovis as well as college athletes from the University of Southern California. Our athletes were able to swim up to six events and establish new times. FAST recorded 155 best times and 42 new USAS NAG times (1 "AAA", 3 "AA", 20 "A", 9 "BB", 14 "B"). This morning FAST's Simon Lamar was added to the USA Swimming World Championship roster. Simon will compete in his second World Championships, the last being in 2017 in Hungary and he will again be competing in the 25-kilometer event. The race, which will take more than five hours to complete, occurs on June 30th in Lake Lupa, Budapest Hungary. Check out the FINA website for more information on the open water event and all the other swimming championships which will be held. Congratulations and good luck Simon!

In his first-ever international competition FAST's Matthew Chai won the 400, 800 and 1500-meter Freestyle events last weekend in Vancouver. Matthew traveled with the USA National Junior Team to compete in the 57th Annual Mel Zajac Meet, which was held at the University of British Columbia. The competition featured top swimmers from all over Canada as well as selected athletes from the United States. Matthew Chai, Kailee Chow and Skyler Kao, all swimmers at Fullerton Aquatics Sports Team (FAST), each won the 500-yard freestyle in their divisions at the CIF Southern Section Championships on May 7. The following weekend, Chai won the event at the statewide championships in Fresno. At the Southern Section Championships, Chai set a CIF DII record of 4:15.91, breaking the 39-year-old record set by Jeff Kostoff in 1983. At the California championships on May 14, Chai won the 500-yard freestyle and set a state record with a time of 4:15.09....

At the FAST Closed Invite last weekend FAST swimmers took advantage of their opportunity to swim Long Course Meters events by recording 227 new official times. Team athletes also posted 63 new personal best times in events they have previously swum. Now that our database is full of real times (and far fewer "No Time" entries) it will be motivating to see measurable improvements. Congratulations to everyone who participated.
