This past weekend at the Western Zone Open Water Championships FAST swimmers performed in outstanding fashion. Fourteen team members traveled to Coronado, CA and competed in 1000, 3000 and 5000 meter races. The competition was open to teams across the Western Zone which encompasses the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Wyoming. On Saturday 118 FAST athletes competed in the Blue vs White Instrasquad meet. Led by enthusiastic high school seniors who served as team captains, the competition was close right until the end with a final score of Blue--2968 and White--3318. Congratulations to all who participated (especially those with painted faces) and thanks again to Blue Team Captains (Kaneiya Desai, Huy Le, Cera Mallory, Matthew Menchaca and Ayanna Thompson) and White Team Captains (Jaxx Miller and Ayden Min) for their energy and efforts!

22 athletes from FAST will compete in the Western Zone Open Water Championships in Coronado, CA on Saturday. The competition will feature swimmers of all ages competing in 1000 Meter, 3000 Meter and 5000 Meter events at the Glorietta Bay Park venue. Good luck to all! The next pool competition for FAST will be the Blue vs. White SCY Intrasquad meet on Saturday, September 17. Our high school seniors will be leading this event as team captains. On Wednesday USA Swimming announced its 2022-2023 National Team roster, which included Matthew Chai from FAST! Matthew, the only high school aged swimmer from California to make the team, qualified with his team record swim of 15:16.42 in the 1500M freestyle at the World Championship Trials meet. This performance made him the 6th fatest swimmer in the country this past season. Matthew joins Simon Lamar who was named to the Open Water National Team earlier this year. Congratulations to James Gallagher and Jason Lee for their contributions to Southern California Swimming's win at the Western Zone All-Star meet. Coach James and his staff led the victorious team of 70 swimmers while Jason Lee had 7 best times in 7 events this past weekend in Elk Grove, CA. Congratulations!

FAST seniors Matthew Chai and Kailee Chow concluded their high school careers with fine performances at the USAS Junior National Championships this week in Irvine, CA. Matthew Chai took the win in the 1500M Freestyle on the first night of the meet by holding off some stiff competition with a time of 15:28.25. Kailee Chow swam a time trial and dropped 1.5 seconds in the 200M Butterfly to smash her own team record. This morning Kailee Chow competed in her first Summer Junior Nationals, swimming the 200M Butterfly and finishing in 27th place.
