Congratulations to our Week 2 "Island Time" Fundraiser individual winners. By raising a combined $1,900 in one week, Sydney Cruz ($1,100) and Finn Shook ($800) were our top female and male fundraisers for the week. Saturday, October 29th FAST will hold its "Island Time" fundraiser. The event will feature a 1-hour open water swim around islands in the pool as well as other teambuilding activities. There will be two age groups, 12&U and 13&O (including adults). Prizes will be awarded for things such as: Best aloha vibe Most idyllic island Hula Hoop contest Limbo contest And more! USA Swimming recently announced its 2021-2022 Scholastic All-America list, featuring 1,281 athletes in 9-12th grade who maintained a minimum 3.5 grade point average (GPA) and meet any of the competition criteria during the qualifying period of September 1, 2021 – August 31, 2022. Matthew Chai, now a freshman at Cal Berkeley, made the list for the second time. Congratulations!

At the GWSC Pumpkin Meet yesterday FAST swimmers finished a full weekend of racing in stellar fashion. Here are some stats: 49 new National Age Group Motivational Times (1 "AAA", 4 "AA", 9 "A", 17 "BB, 18 "B") 135 personal best times (68%) 21 pumpkins brought home for heat-winning performances! FAST raced the distance events last Friday and a plethora of mid-distance and sprint events on Saturday while hosting several local teams. The meet, designed to involve all the team's swimmers regardless of speed, proved an excellent opportunity to swim numerous events and bring FAST athletes of all ages and abilities together at the same time. Long-time FAST swimmer Bill McGarvey challenged his Masters teammates this morning after practice. McGarvey, aka "Taco Bill", announced that he would match all Masters donations up to $1,000 to the "Island Time" fundraiser next weekend. He encouraged the group to give whatever they could, noting that if all 90 registered FAST Masters swimmers contributed it would be a significant amount raised towards a new timing system, lane lines and other infrastructure items which are sorely needed. Congratulations to our Week 1 "Island Time" Fundraiser individual winners. By raising a combined $2,785 in one week, Atalia Perez ($1,135) and Peter Zhang ($1,650) were our top female and male fundraisers for the week. Congratulations also to the Junior group for taking the team contest at the final hour last Saturday with a total of $2,606.05 raised. The contest continues this week and results will be announced on Monday. Remember, "You gotta be in it to win it!"

This past weekend at the Western Zone Open Water Championships FAST swimmers performed in outstanding fashion. Fourteen team members traveled to Coronado, CA and competed in 1000, 3000 and 5000 meter races. The competition was open to teams across the Western Zone which encompasses the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Wyoming.
